This study examines how different payment methods—UPI, credit cards, and cash—are associated with consumer spending behaviour. The study used a structured questionnaire to collect primary data from 77 respondents across different age groups and occupations. The study compares these payment methods in terms of convenience, risk, impulse purchases, overspending and spending control. The findings show that UPI was considered the most convenient method and was most commonly associated with impulse purchases, while credit cards were perceived as more financially risky. Most respondents identified cash as providing better control over spending. Convenience and speed were the main reasons for payment-method preference. Overall, the study suggests that payment methods are associated with differences in spending perceptions and behaviour, although the findings are limited to the sample and do not establish causation.
